Where did budgie-chat move to?
Occasionally, the budgie-chat moves networks. Reasons are usually for better stability, additional servers, or other beneficial reasons. The latest switch has the budgie-chat on the ShadowWorld Network.
What does this latest switch mean for me?
This switch to a new server will require you to make some changes in your IRC client software to connect to the new server.
Changing server settings in Ircle:
In Ircle, go to the Connections window and click on the 'Servers...' button. Then click the 'Add...' button in the Servers List window. For server name type one of the ShadowWorld servers. For port use 6667. Then click the 'OK' button. Then make sure that your new server settings are selected in the Servers List and click the 'Select' button. Then connect to the ShadowWorld Network by clicking the 'Connect' button.
Now look at your screen to see if there is a message that says something along the line of:
"This nick is owned by someone else. Please choose another. [ If this is your nick, type "/msg nickserv IDENT (or IDENTIFY)If there is then you will need to change you nickname IMMEDIATELY because someone else has already registered it and the server will disconnect you if it isn't changed within 60 seconds. To change your nick type /nick newnickname and hit return. Keep doing this until you find a nickname that hasn't been taken. Then you will probably want to register your nickname so that no one else can take it from you. Do this by typing /msg nickserv register password (changing password to something you have chosen as your own password).". Check your alternate nick ACCESS's (user@host) with "/msg nickserv ACCESS LIST" ] If you do not change or IDENT within 60 seconds, you will be disconnected." Then, you are ready for chatting!
Type /join #budgie-chat (This will bring you into the #budgie-chat room).
Changing server settings in mIRC:
In mIRC, go to the file menu down to 'setup'. On the 'IRC Servers' section there is a scrollable option for choosing a specific network. Scroll around until you find a set of ShadowWorld Network servers and choose one of them. (If you don't see these servers listed you will have to ADD one of the ShadowWorld servers). Make sure that you port is set to 6667.Then connect to the ShadowWorld Network by hitting the lightening bolt icon or going to the file menu to 'connect'.
